General Meeting: Tuesday, June 6, 19:30 at San Jose Jet Center

May Meeting Summary

Jack McIntyre related his experiences flying
as a navigator in F-4 bombers during the Viet Nam war. In addition
to the charts and his description of the operations, the F-4 manual by
itself was interesting, in that it was somewhat more complex than the
Cessna Pilot Operating Handbooks that we are used to.

June Birthdays

Tom Clark on the 2nd, John Genise on the 18th,
Burt Kolodziejczak on the 21st, & Mark Smith on the 25th

Humor: Great FAA quote

We were pre-flighting a C-172 the other day when the FAA drove up
and asked to see the plane's docs and licenses. During the ensuing
banter, the FAA rep quoted his motto as:
"we're not happy 'til you're not happy".

Roger Fane's letter to Flying Aces:

Hi Doug,

Long time no see! Hope all is well with you. I'm doing pretty well, but not perfect - I still
have to work for a living!! Haven't been flying as much as I would like either. That's
been due to weather and time and money spent having to accomplish other things. Nor
have I had the oppotunity to attend the Flying Aces meetings. Sounds like you have
had a couple good ones, that I was sorry to miss.

I'm moving pretty soon. My wife, Sabrina, and I have bought a nice big house in Fresno.
It's brand new, and about half way built as of now. It looks like we will be moving in late
June- early July timeframe, and we are really looking forward to having some room. As
you might remember, we presently live in a single-wide mobilehome, where we have
been for 15 1/2 years. Our place has 576 square feet, and the new house has about
1,645 or so square feet. It also has a nice big garage, where I presently have a carport
now. Maybe I'll build a kitplane in the garage!!

Therefore, I am resigning my membership from Flying Aces. I know I could stay as a
member and use the hull insurance, but I'm out of annual anyways. I could also use the
money. Fresno is a lot more affordable than here, but it sure isn't cheap. Every little bit
will help, especially as I hope to start or join a partnership in a Cessna 150/152 or
something similar over at FAT.

I want to say thank you, for all your efforts in helping me accomplish my dream of
getting my Private. I appreciate it a lot! I still want to throw that hood of yours out the
window sometime, and will always fondly remember the time I made you airsick. I'll
always be grateful that you held on until we got to Watsonville! Actually, making you
sick isn't what I enjoyed the most, but rather it was that lesson when I really knew that I
would get my ticket soon, and really gave my confidence a shot in the arm. It all really
seemed to come together, even after a month of not flying due to weather and trying to
get a phase check done. I hadn't flown very well on the phase check the week before
that lesson, and my confidence was in the hole before then.

Ok, I won't rattle on any further. Thanks for everything Doug!! My email will stay the
same for awhile: rfane@worldnet.att.net or rfane@hotmail.com I'll keep in touch with you.
